The INTBAU Ukraine Chapter was established in 2022, during a time of significant challenges for the country. Its creation reflects a commitment to preserving and revitalising Ukraine’s architectural and cultural heritage while promoting sustainable urban development, even amidst the complexities of recovery and reconstruction. Led by Prof. Yuriy Kryvoruchko, in collaboration with Prof. Andrii Markovskyi, the chapter provides a platform for cooperation between Ukrainian architects and the global architectural community.

By integrating world practices and local knowledge, INTBAU Ukraine aspires to spearhead projects that align with the nation’s recovery and resilience-building efforts. This includes the protection of traditional Ukrainian architecture, particularly in rural areas, where rapid urbanisation poses challenges to the preservation of crafts, traditional practices, and sacred structures.

Through workshops, seminars, and partnerships with institutions like the University of Notre Dame, the chapter will facilitate the exchange of ideas and skills, helping to shape the future of Ukraine’s urban and rural landscapes. These collaborations aim to empower Ukrainian communities to rebuild in a way that respects their cultural heritage, while also embracing innovation and sustainability.

In doing so, INTBAU Ukraine seeks to ensure that the country’s rich traditions are not only preserved but also serve as a foundation for its future architectural and urban development. The chapter invites architects, urban planners, and cultural practitioners to join this effort, contributing to meaningful projects that honour Ukraine’s rich traditions and promote thoughtful development for the future.
