INTBAU Austria, established in 2024, joins the global network of INTBAU chapters committed t to promoting humane buildings and urban spaces in harmony with local design traditions. Led by Robert Krasser, the new Austrian Chapter is based in Salzburg with Interim Treasurer, Nikolaus Walus.  INTBAU Austria seeks to foster a deeper understanding of local architectural traditions, encourage community involvement, and support a built environment that respects local character, climate, and context.

Austria, with its rich history of architectural innovation and vernacular practices, brings a wealth of knowledge to the INTBAU community. From its beautifully preserved medieval townscapes to its Alpine chalets and Baroque landmarks, Austria’s architectural heritage offers invaluable insights into context-driven design. By tapping into this legacy, INTBAU Austria aims to not only preserve the country’s historic architecture but also inspire new generations to build in harmony with the landscape and cultural values. It hopes to achieve its goals through competitions for students, publication work, excursions, lectures, seminars and more. As the Chapter settles its more administrative responsibilities, it plans to have updates on initiatives and programmes by the new year.
