Hungary

Contact

INTBAU Hungary was established in 2025 by Adam Ragab with the goal of supporting and revitalising Hungary’s rich architectural heritage through traditional building methods, sustainable urbanism, and architecture. Our organisation seeks to bridge the gap between modern development and cultural preservation, especially in cities like Budapest, where the tension between heritage and new construction is growing.

Our mission is to advocate for sustainable practices that respect historical context while adapting to contemporary needs.

What we do

  • Networking: INTBAU Hungary aims to create an active network of individuals and institutions dedicated to protecting, maintaining, designing, studying, and promoting traditional building, architecture, and urbanism.
  • Public Awareness and Education: Our initial priority is to launch educational and public awareness programs to promote traditional building methods in Hungary. We aim to develop hands-on workshops with local craftspeople, host public lectures, collaborate with universities on research and prepare publications.
  • Project Advisory: As part of our broader mission, our aim is to develop strong working relationships with key market players, including local authorities, developers, and planners, to advocate for the integration of these methods into public and private projects. By becoming actively involved in the planning, approval, and development stages of newly built and development projects, we seek to influence contemporary building practices and ensure that traditional, sustainable techniques are considered viable options. This will not only help preserve cultural heritage but also promote environmentally responsible construction in developments across Hungary.
  • Strengthening International Collaboration: We aim to build relationships with other INTBAU Chapters and international organisations, while presenting and introducing Hungarian practices and fostering cross-border collaboration on projects that promote the preservation and revitalisation of traditional architecture globally.
  • Sustainable Urbanism: To collaborate with universities and research institutions in conducting studies on masterplanning, integrating traditional methods with modern urban solutions, as well as to promote rural rehabilitation and biodiversity projects and practices.
