
Revista Baluarte is the first publication of its kind in Brazil, dedicated to the advancement of traditional architecture. This biannual, bilingual magazine is an initiative of INTBAU Brazil, hosted by IBAT (Brazilian Institute of Traditional Architecture).
Developed by IBAT’s Research Department, the magazine features scholarly articles by esteemed national and international authors, providing invaluable insights into the preservation and revitalisation of traditional architectural practices.
This inaugural issue features IBAT’s ‘Revitalizing the Debate on Traditional Architecture in Brazil,’ Patrícia Junqueira’s exploration of the historiography of Brazilian architecture and its need for renewal, James Stevens Curl’s analysis of high and mass culture, and Nikos A. Salingaros’s critique of twentieth-century architecture. Other contributions include articles from Steven W. Semes, Pablo Álvarez Funes, Pedro Marques de Abreu, Alexandre Kiss, Marcelo Albuquerque Corrêa, and Lucas Duarte Costa Lima, offering diverse perspectives on tradition, beauty, and the evolution of architectural practices.

About INTBAU Brazil
The INTBAU Brazil Chapter, established in March 2024 and hosted by the Brazilian Institute of Traditional Architecture (IBAT), is dedicated to advancing humanised architecture that respects local traditions. Founded in 2023, IBAT brings together architects, builders, artists, and intellectuals to promote spaces that foster beauty, balance, and a sense of belonging, while advocating for traditional architecture and urbanism in Brazil.
