Christopher Clayton Davis, BA MArch ARB RIBA AABC GSC — Chartered Architect
Christopher is an award-winning British architect specialising in traditional design and construction. His expertise spans sensitive additions to historic buildings and settings, bespoke new work employing local architectural traditions, and conservation of built heritage.
His approach combines a rigorous understanding of architectural history, focusing on respecting the spirit of place, with the use of local materials, crafts and techniques. Christopher’s work is rooted in the values of the Arts and Crafts movement, with a deep respect for the cultural context and local heritage of each site.
Christopher’s portfolio includes significant conservation and new build projects. His experience working on many different families of building — ranging from houses to museums, castles and churches — spans from the scale of a neighbourhood or country estate through to the meticulous detailing of bespoke elements of joinery, ironmongery, leadwork, and masonry. Whilst practicing at Ptolemy Dean Architects in London, Chris worked on the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries at Westminster Abbey, and was the Project Architect for the multi-award-winning, meticulous reworking of historic Aldourie Estate on the banks of Loch Ness, in the Scottish Highlands.
Beyond architectural practice, Chris is a Commissioned Officer in the British Army’s Cultural Property Protection Unit, dedicated towards the preservation of heritage sites in conflict zones. As a guest lecturer at the Table Ronde d’Architecture Summer School and a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Masons, Christopher is committed to promoting traditional building methods and supporting the next generation of architects and craftspeople.
Chris has studied in London, Liverpool and Oxfordshire and now practices for Purcell in London.
