Pedro Pablo Godoy is an architect of Guatemala born in 1971. Mr. Godoy studied architecture at the University Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala. In 2000 he was awarded a MA in Architecture from the University of Notre Dame (USA) and was honored for his academic excellence with the Ferguson, Shamammian and Rattner Graduate Prize. He has lectured at both universities over the recent years. Mr. Godoy is a member of the Architecture Advisory Council of the University of Notre Dame and also sits in the Friends Council of the Universidad del Istmo in Guatemala.
Work
Mr. Pedro Godoy is the Director of Estudio Urbano based in Guatemala. The firm specializes in traditional architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture. Mr. Godoy collaborates with his partner Maria Sanchez on a wide range of projects from low cost housing units to restorations of historical centers. Currently they are working together with the renowned urbanist Leon Krier on the extension of the historical city of Cayala, the largest city extension of this kind in Guatemala, and on two new towns located on the Caribbean Coast of Guatemala and the historical city of Antigua Guatemala. Mr. Godoy is also working together with South Bay Developers on a residential project in Key Biscayne, Florida (USA) and in the city of Guayaquil in Ecuador.
Mr. Godoy worked previously as a designer on a number of urban charrettes initiated by the internationally renowned firms Duany & Plater-Zyberk, Dover-Kohl & Partners, Planning & Development Inc. He also collaborated with the City of Miami. In recent years, Mr. Godoy has worked as a consultant on architecture and urbanism on projects in Italy, the United States of America, Ecuador, Costa Rica and Guatemala.
The work of Pedro Godoy has been widely awarded. In 2007 he received the First Prize in the Private Architectural Competition from the Hacienda Santa Lucia, Guatemala. In 2005 he was the winner of the First Prize of the National Design Competition and Urban Planning, Minimal Rural Housing in Santa Rosa, Guatemala. In 1996 he received the First Prize for the Marsham, Street Urban Design Competition in London for a project developed together with Tagliaventi & Associates.
Mr. Godoy’s work has been exhibited widely including at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London, at the University of Bologna in Italy, at the M.O.C.A. in Miami, USA and at the El Sitio gallery in Antigua, Guatemala. A number of his projects have also been covered in publications such as The Classicist, The New Herald in Miami and in the Guatemalan media. Mr. Godoy is also a university lecturer.
