Ms Anne Fairfax started Fairfax & Sammons Architects with Richard Franklin Sammons, in 1992 and Fairfax, Sammons & Partners in 1999. The firms specialise in traditional and classical design residential design and neighborhood regeneration. In 1983, Mr. Sammons received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Denison University, Ohio and studied Architecture at the University of Virginia, having obtained his Master of Architecture degree in 1986.
In 2000, he also attended the Attingham Summer School. In 1990, Mr. Sammons was one of the students at The Prince of Wales’ Summer School in Civil Architecture and in 1986 he took part at the Architecture Study Programme in Venice, Italy.
WORK
Starting 1987-1996, Mr. Sammons was the Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the School of Architecture at Pratt Institute in New York. From 1993-1996 he was the Visiting Instructor at the Prince of Wales’ Institute of Architecture in England and the Prince of Wales American Summer School. Since 1992, Mr. Sammons has been an on-going Instructor/Lecturer at the Institute of Classical Architecture of New York.
Mr. Sammons’ work has been widely recognised by a number of awards. In 2004, his firm was awarded the Masterworks Award from the Municipal Art Society in New York and the 2013 Arthur Ross Award for Lifetime Achievement. Over a twenty year period, his firm has won numerous Stanford White Awards, Addison Mizner Awards, and the Palladio Award.
In 1996 he came equal first in the Ruth Wittenberg Triangle Competition. In 1989 he was honoured with the Jury’s Choice Award at the Compact House Competition. In 1986, he won the Second Prize at the Classical America Annual Competition and in 1985 Mr. Sammons received the Honorable Mention at the Classical America Annual Competition.
