The Richard H. Driehaus Architecture Competition seeks proposals that can serve as models for better practices in architecture, urbanism, and the conservation of built heritage. The competition particularly focuses on addressing the challenges faced by neglected architectural ensembles and urban areas that are subject to decay or threatened by depopulation.
In this second phase, which is open to international participation, architects of any nationality are invited to submit architectural and urban design proposals for any of the three municipalities selected in the first phase of the competition: Baltanás (Palencia), Irurita (Navarra), and La Fresneda (Teruel). Proposals can be submitted until 4 February 2025.
For each site, the authors of the winning First Prize proposal will receive €12,000, and those awarded an Honourable Mention by the jury will receive €2,000.
The competition is organised by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation with the support of Richard H. Driehaus, in collaboration with the Spanish Ministry of Culture through its Directorate General for Cultural Heritage and Fine Arts, INTBAU Spain, and the Spanish High Council of Institutes of Architects.
